Write a practical image brief

Specify the people or products, location, intended uses and deadline. For an event, name the moments that cannot be repeated and ask about backup arrangements. For commercial work, explain where images will appear and whether another organization will need them. Ask what preparation, location permission or product handling the client must arrange.

Separate delivery from copyright

Canada's copyright guide is an official starting point for understanding ownership and permission. Ask the photographer to document what you can do with the finished images, whether credit is required and whether they may use the work in their own portfolio. Confirm editing scope, gallery access, file sizes and archive duration. Raw files or extensive retouching should not be assumed to be part of a standard booking.
