About This Event

Come and find Bat & Moths on St. Patrick's Island.Step into the shadows and discover the incredible nightlife of St. Patrick’s Island on July 24th from 10 - Midnight! Join us for a fun and family-friendly evening exploring the fascinating world of bats and moths.We’ll set up a special moth-lighting station to attract a dazzling variety of nocturnal insects, perfect for up-close observation and learning about moth diversity during National Moth Week. At the same time, you’ll get the chance to use real bat detectors that pick up the high-frequency calls of bats swooping through the evening sky.You’ll learn how to identify local bat species and hear firsthand how these night-flyers help keep ecosystems in balance.What to Expect:Moth viewing at a light stationBat detectors to hear real-time echolocationNature experts on hand to answer your questionsA laid-back, interactive evening suitable for all agesWhat to Bring:A flashlight or headlampBug spraySomething cozy for a cool summer nightYour curiosity!These walks are presented in partnership between East Village and Nature Calgary, with all registration fees being donated directly to Nature Calgary.Parking: Please note that if you are parking on the street you can pay for your session at any of the parking payment kiosks. If you are parking in the lot, you can only pay for your session using the mobile app from Calgary Parking Authority (https://www.calgaryparking.com/paying-for-parking/mobile-app.html)All walks will start and end at the event board near 656 Confluence Way SE on the RiverWalk pathway.Please note that this is an outdoor event please dress for the conditions. We will provide notice in writing and refund your tickets if the weather meets the following conditions:Adverse weather conditions (Smoke, Heavy Rain/Snow, flooding, etc.)At the discretion of CMLC supervisor based on weather conditions.The upcoming birding event is accessible to all, regardless of age or ability.The pathways are flat. Some pathways are unpaved but they are well compacted. Guides will exercise discretion based on the group's abilities on which pathways they will take. Please let the guide know if you feel uncomfortable with any chosen path - want to ensure you feel safe!Nature Calgary has taken measures to accommodate those with sight or hearing impairmentsGuides are knowledgeable about bird calls to assist those with sight impairmentsSight cues will be available for those with hearing impairmentsDogs are not allowed at the event unless medically necessary.
