About This Event

Discover the exquisite botanical paintings of Jacques Le Moyne and learn Renaissance watercolour techniques through slow and steady drawingWorking from Le Moyne's exquisite flower studies in the British Museum collection, we'll explore the techniques behind his luminous watercolours and remarkable observational skill. His paintings blur the boundaries between art and science, treating flowers not just as decorative motifs or scientific diagrams, but like individual plant portraits! As part of the class, you'll also receive a carefully researched materials guide developed specifically for this workshop alongside a more accessible list.JACQUES LE MOYNE: Drawing FlowersOnline Live Class: 16th July 2pm BST2 weeks Recording included in all ticketsPay What You CanTaught by artist and tutor Frances StanfieldIn this class you'll be guided in creating your own botanical study using transparent watercolour and touches of opaque bodycolour (gouache), learning how to build colour gradually through layers, simplify complex forms, and capture the distinctive character of a plant through careful observation.Along the way, Frances will introduce Le Moyne's remarkable botanical album and share some of the materials and techniques used by Renaissance artists, providing a sprinkling of historical context to the practical exercises. As part of the class, you'll also receive a carefully researched materials guide developed specifically for this workshop.
