About This Event
Give back to the Bow River through this restoration work party. Participate in an invasive plant pull & restore native species.Searching for ways to give back to the land and river? Want to learn more about Bow River ecology while doing meaningful work? Join fellow volunteers in an invasive plant pull. The slopes of Crescent Heights are one of the most picturesque and well-loved parks in the city. Historically, these flood plain hills were rich habitat for songbirds, wildflowers, and berry shrubs, yet pressure from invasive species has taken their toll on the native plant community and is damaging this hillside habitat. Still, much remains of value!Join a work party of fellow volunteers to give back to the lands that give us life. Working amidst saskatoons and ripening chockecherries, you can spend the evening pulling weeds, replanting natives, learning about local ecology, and bonding with others through shared work. This project will mobilize trained volunteers, youth, and local organizations, while honouring Indigenous Knowledge. It will build long-term community stewardship capacity through citizen science, education, and collaboration with municipal and conservation partners. All training and equipement are provided. All that's needed is a willingness to learn and to get your hands dirty. The event is free. It's part of a four-part series this summer. Come to any or all of the events in this series. We look forward to seeing you there!Meeting Location: Please meet us in Rotary Park (parking on 1 St NE at 3 Ave NE). Specifically, meet us at the Top of the Rotary Park Stairs ( Google map code: 3W4Q+78 Calgary, Alberta).
