Upholstery in Calgary

A worn cover, flattened cushion and loose furniture frame are different upholstery problems. Decide whether the aim is to retain a valued piece, change its appearance or restore how it sits. Ask an upholsterer what assessment is needed before choosing fabric or accepting a recovering quote.

Use the comparison checklist

Assess the piece before buying fabric

Provide photographs, overall dimensions and details of what feels worn or unstable. Ask whether the frame, springs or other support will need an in-person assessment. A quote based on photos may remain provisional until the piece is opened. Explain which original details matter, such as piping, buttons or a distinctive silhouette. If the fabric is customer-supplied, ask the upholsterer to confirm suitability and required quantity before you purchase it; pattern matching can affect the material needed.

Review a complete material and workmanship brief

Ask for the exact fabric reference, proposed cushion construction and any support repairs in writing. Discuss pattern placement, seams, visible trim and whether existing details will be replicated or changed. Fabric care information should come from the specified supplier, not a generic promise that all covers clean the same way. Confirm collection, delivery, access measurements and how hidden repairs are approved. Calgary's contracting guidance is useful for written-scope questions, but does not certify upholstery skill or establish a provider's warranty.
