Carpentry & millwork in Calgary

Carpentry can mean changing a framed opening, fitting interior trim or building a room-specific storage piece. Those jobs call for different evidence of fit. Identify whether the work changes the building, finishes a surface or creates a custom-made item before requesting estimates.

Use the comparison checklist

Give the craftsperson a usable brief

For finish work, show the existing trim profile, junctions and areas that must match. For built-ins, describe what needs to fit inside, not just the outside dimensions. If framing or a wall opening is involved, ask how structural assessment and Calgary permit requirements will be established. A portfolio can show a style you like, but it cannot confirm that the proposed construction suits your particular wall or room.

Agree on the decisions before fabrication

Ask when dimensions become final, how drawings are approved and which samples establish the colour and surface finish. Solid wood, veneer and sheet products are different specifications, not interchangeable descriptions of quality. The agreement should cover scribing to uneven walls, hardware, visible joints and touch-ups after installation. Clarify who moves services or repairs adjacent finishes if the new piece does not stop at a simple furniture installation.
