Resolve the line before choosing panels

Prepare a sketch of the intended runs, access points and any existing wall or grade change. Ask what property information is needed to establish the boundary and whether City review applies to the proposed dimensions and location. Calgary distinguishes fences from retaining walls and lists circumstances that trigger permits. If the work also retains soil, have the contractor explain how that separate function will be assessed rather than treating it as an ordinary fence accessory.

Think through gates and maintenance

Gate width, swing direction, latch choice and clearance matter as much as panel appearance. Describe the objects or equipment that need to pass through. Ask how existing posts will be evaluated if they are to remain and what happens if replacement becomes necessary. Compare the specified wood, metal or composite system with its finish and maintenance expectations. Removal of the old fence and repair of disturbed landscaping should have explicit owners in the quote.
