Fit matters more than the label

For a street-facing room, a top-down option may let light enter above while the lower part of the window stays covered. The extra mechanism is useful only if that operating pattern fits the room. For another window, a standard shade or a second drapery layer may be simpler. The decision depends on sight lines and how the room is used after dark.
