Use 66 Avenue and 37 Street SW as the City-listed location when planning your arrival. Then check your chosen trail and return route before heading into the valley. An address for the park is not a promise that every trail begins beside the parking area or that each route is step-free.
If you need a firm surface, a gentle grade or a short walk to a washroom, confirm those details with Calgary Parks before travelling. The City’s feature list does not establish accessibility for every trail. Bring drinking water rather than relying on a seasonal fountain.
What makes this place different
The City describes Weaselhead as Calgary’s only delta. As the Elbow River slows on entering Glenmore Reservoir, deposited sand and gravel form channels, bars and marsh areas. That is why a visit here feels different from a manicured picnic park.
The reserve also contains a large stand of coniferous forest. White spruce, balsam poplar, trembling aspen and willow communities are described in the City’s account. Watch from the trail and give wildlife space; this is habitat, not a place to approach animals for a photograph.
Match the walk to the conditions
The City lists park hours as 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.; check its page and posted signs for changes before you visit. Seasonal washrooms and water fountains should not be assumed available in winter. Snow, ice or wet ground can change the effort needed for the same route.
Take footwear suited to the surface, enough water and a way to find your return route. Keep a dog leashed unless an area is explicitly signed otherwise; this guide does not identify any off-leash area in Weaselhead. Do not treat a nearby off-leash park’s rules as rules for this natural area.
