Mother’s Day in Calgary: plan a day that fits your family

A good Mother’s Day plan does not need a packed schedule. Choose one main outing, check the details with the operator, and leave room for the people you are celebrating. This is an evergreen planning guide, not a calendar of confirmed Mother’s Day events.

A market visit: separate groceries from a ticketed event

For food shopping, Alberta’s approved farmers’ market directory is a useful starting point. Use it to find an operator, then check that market’s current hours, location and vendor information. Approval as a farmers’ market does not establish that a venue is hosting a Mother’s Day craft sale.

For a craft or spring market, find the organizer’s own listing before paying or travelling. Confirm the year, venue, admission, parking and whether a ticket covers a timed session. A past spring-market listing is not evidence that the same event returns annually. Ask about step-free access and seating if those will shape your visit.

An indoor garden stop at Devonian Gardens

The City lists Devonian Gardens on the fourth floor of the CORE Shopping Centre, at 400, 317 7 Avenue SW. Its features include botanical gardens, a living wall, fountains, fish ponds and a playground. That offers a specific indoor option when the family wants plants and a walk without committing to an outdoor trail.

The City says hours are typically the same as the CORE Shopping Centre’s, and directs visitors to the shopping centre for current times. Check access, parking and any booked-space restrictions before you go. This is a year-round venue idea, not a claim that a special Mother’s Day program has been announced.

A picnic: book the site, not just the idea

For a group picnic, start with the City’s picnic-site information and booking process. Different sites have different facilities; the City directs visitors to review the site information and discuss requirements with Bookings. Decide whether you need a reservable space, a nearby toilet, a table or an accessible route from parking.

Bring a simple meal and choose a weather alternative before the day. Do not assume a park has a permitted fire pit, that firewood will be supplied, or that a public table is reserved for your group. Provincial parks such as Fish Creek have separate rules and facility schedules from City picnic sites.

Confirm the details that can spoil a booking

If brunch or tea is the main outing, ask the restaurant directly about the menu, dietary needs, child pricing, deposit, cancellation terms and time allowed at the table. A venue’s ordinary service is not proof of a holiday package or availability.

Keep travel between stops modest. Pick a meeting point, confirm who needs a ride and have one person hold the booking details. For any advertised seasonal event, use the organizer’s current edition: this guide does not carry forward the dates or recurrence of an expired 2026 market.
