Monday through Friday, a dedicated core of 35-40 volunteers work along side our staff to sort, clean and repair or refinish donated items which are then offered at a low cost to our clients. Our dedicated staff provide a safe place for people living with mental illness to come together to socialize, to learn, to work and to have fun. Twice per year, spring & fall we invite the public to our sales which offers a rewarding experience for the volunteers and helps generate funds to enhance programs at Calgary Association of Self Help. Virtually all groups that study poverty agree that the most effective way to reduce it is to improve the social, economic and political situation of women and, by extension, children. Women’s levels of health, education, and security reflect those of their families. So, when a mother suffers the effects of poverty, future generations of her family do as well, creating a cycle of poverty from which it is very difficult to escape.
