The Alberta Rugby Football Union (ARU) was incorporated in the Province of Alberta in May 1970. At the time, rugby was being played throughout the Province, with clubs and unions managing the regions, when a need for a Provincial Sports organization (PSO) was identified. It was decided that the ARU would work with both the regional organizations and Rugby Canada to better improve the development and administration of rugby in Alberta.
