Community gardens are a great way to provide fresh produce as well as allowing local residents to plant and work in a local garden. It improves the neighborhood and creates a strong sense of community along with a healthy connection to the environment. Community gardens are typically owned in trust by local governments or non profit organizations.
The City of Calgary encourages and supports the development of local community gardens. You can start one in your area by first contacting your local community association to find like minded individuals. As a group, determine a suitable location in your area and then submit a proposal to the City of Calgary web site for approval.
