The Hub is a minimal-commitment YSC (Youth Singers of Calgary) Summer Choir! The Hub is open to anyone 14+.This summer program is for YSC members who wish to continue singing throughout the summer; community members who want to sing in a low-commitment, fun environment; students home on summer break; alumni unable to commit to the full year program but who still wish to keep a connection with the YSC community; and anyone else who wants to spend their summer in song! Our aim is to create a social, artsy hub where singers from across the organization and beyond (present, past, and new) will meet to sing together. Come with friends, sing with your siblings who may be in different divisions, have a great night of music as parents and kids, sing with other staff members and work with different directors, and come to a place for a few short weeks where people can reconnect without an expectation to put on a huge production. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights from 7:00-9:00, running July 4 - August 8. The music will be medium to hard, so previous musical experience is required. We’ll explore genres such as a cappella, gospel, tribal, folk, pop, classical, and more! Register for all 6 rehearsals for $100 or drop in for a single session. Individual rehearsals are $20 in advance, or $25 at-the-door. Learn about this new YSC summer project and register at: https://www.amilia.com/store/en/youthsingers/api/Program/Detail?programId=Kk1nPEb

Enjoy the Vital 1 experience! If you're having fun, it's not exercise. I have a wish; to help and encourage those 50+ like myself to age well. I will instruct you through a 55-minute lovely no impact, gentle yet challenging Essentrics class. Feel the energizing and therapeutic benefits of the fluid, rotational movements that promote strength and flexibility. Be challenged, or do it in a more relaxed manner. Either way you will feel so much better at the end. We'll have fun with the playlists of music that "our generation" knows and enjoys. Come as you are. All you need to bring is an exercise mat and an exercise band. Although Essentrics can be your only exercise program, it will also be a fabulous complement to your favorite activity or sport. July will be a "Summer Sampler" of classes, a different Essentrics workout/different music each time; to introduce you to and have you see and feel the variety of classes. "Homework" will be presented at the end of each class: an instruction to highlight and help you build body awareness, feel more of a certain motion or exercise, and learn how to build on and improve the movement. This can then be done at home to further your goal of loosening what's tight and improving range of motion. Class dates are Fridays July 13, 20, 27 at 9:30 AM and Mondays July 16, 23, 30 at 9:30 AM, held at Dalhousie Community Center, 5432 Dalhart Road NW, Calgary. Please register for any or all classes at http://vital1.ca/classes or call me at 403-208-3307. Cost is $100 for all six classes, or $20 for any single class.

Give your child an opportunity to "test-drive" what their entry into school will be like. Our program offers a 1:8 ratio with certified teachers, each week will have a maximum of 16 kids. We are early childhood specialists and our camp offers a literacy based program with purposeful play. At the end of the week we send students home with an assessment to let parents see where their child will shine and where they may still need some extra practice so that they feel more confident as they enter into school. We will give suggestions as to what they can do with them at home to continue to grow those skills. This week is in SPANISH and will have a farm theme.

This week will have an Under the Sea/beach theme.

Last year over 2,800 people attended our second annual Food Fest. This event was greatly supported by our community, and we were delighted to have Mayor Naheed Nenshi and MLA Rick McIver present, among other governing representatives. Together with community minded businesses and individuals, over 1,700 lbs. of food was given to the Calgary Food Bank. In addition, $18,894 was raised towards SHE Rescue Homes, which is a shelter in Cambodia for young girls aged 5-16 years that have been rescued from sexual exploitation, prostitution, and trafficking! Building on last year’s success, Team Up Calgary is planning to increase our local community impact! In addition to supporting the Calgary Food Bank, Team Up Calgary will be contributing a portion of the Food Fest proceeds to Calgary’s Sonshine Community Services, which has been providing safety and support to women, children, and families in the Calgary area for 35 years. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged in our community and in our world.

The Unsyncables, an entertaining play written by Rebecca Merkley, is the story of three young synchronized swimmers who rise to the top — unless, of course, they’ve forgotten their water wings. The clunky Juniper, Mary and Olga can’t even manage to sync up a high five. With plenty of obstacles in the way, the three set out to win a medal at the annual Insyncathon. Unfortunately, their friendship is put to the test when Mary runs into her old teammate Twyla, who is determined to make waves. The Unsyncables received a Sterling Nomination for Best Fringe Production and enthusiastic media and patron reviews.

The Wardens’ mountain music is a piece of Canada reflecting the pristine wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. With haunting three-part harmonies, Scott Ward (guitar), Bradley Bischoff (guitar) and Ray Schmidt (bass/mandolin) share stories drawing on 60+ years of fiercely protecting Canada’s most prized landscapes. The Wardens are the real deal; their careers have seen them get dangerously close to grizzly bears (Wheels on The Wildlife Trap), fight devastating forest fires (Backfire) and take part in the historic return of the buffalo to Banff National Park in 2017 (Sleeping Buffalo). They preserve heroic tales from park history (Lantern Heart, Troop Train and The Ballad of Bill Neish) and look to nature and landscape as muse (Across The River). A rare look into nature and the soul of the Rocky Mountains, The Wardens’ original songs and stories are an essential part of Canada. Enjoy this wonderful show in an intimate setting. Only 70 seats available for this performance! Tanner James is one of the last great Canadian storytellers who is proud to carry on the oral storytelling tradition. His songs are about the people he meets and places he’s been; they are gut-wrenchingly funny and heartbreakingly confessional. Punk rock taught him how to do-it-yourself, indie rock taught him how to think outside the box, while roots music is where he always knew he would end up. Most of all, James is a songwriter who can move an audience around and make them laugh and cry within minutes.
