Peace be on you, Our city was in the news recently related to some Muslim youth, who were recruited by radical Muslim groups to participate in the so called “Jihad” in Iraq and elsewhere. Without any opportunity for people to understand the exact problem, it is very easy to start labeling all Muslims as terrorists or at least ones who harbor violent thoughts, which would be far from the truth. In an effort to prevent this stereotyping and to introduce people to the peaceful nature of Islam and its founder, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at is conducting an educational SHOW at The Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, located at 1415 14 Avenue NW, Calgary, Alberta, on Thursday, October 2nd, 2014. The show discovers the story of a man who left a profound mark on history. We uncover the man behind the name, the man who inspired so many throughout the ages and throughout the world. We bring you his true story and the legacy he left behind, a story about character, a story about perseverance, a story about victory against all odds and opposition. And above all else, the story of a man who found God while living among the ungodly, and left a spiritual legacy behind for others to follow, and find God themselves. This educational show is free and starts at 6 pm and will end at 8 pm with interaction and free refreshments will start at 5 pm , we like to request the participation of everyone to come and lean it the first hand. Please pass this info and invitation to all your friends and neighbors. For your convenience online registration is recommended at www.theprophet.ca The show made its debut in Toronto’s Royal Thomson Hall two years ago and has been presented in many cities across Canada. At every location, the comments of the participants were overwhelming and they appreciated the significance of this show in promoting interfaith harmony as well as the quality of the event. We are very hopeful, you will be thrilled with this show. We look forward to your acceptance of this invitation and partic

This year on October 4, 2014 in Calgary (and in select cities all around North America), bicyclers will have the chance to participate in Ride for Refuge, a fantastically fun, family-friendly bike-a-thon supporting charities serving the displaced, vulnerable, and exploited. Bikers can choose to ride alone, or make a team to support a charity of their choosing. HART (Humanitarian Aid Response Teams) is encouraging riders to join a team in support of Ukrainian refugees. HART has been working over the past several months to evacuate orphans from the war zones in the Eastern part of Ukraine. HART has assisted in evacuating over 400 orphans and relocating them to safe facilities in Central and Western Ukraine. An orphanage HART evacuated recently was bombed the day after the children were removed. Many of them will not be able to return to their orphanage for up to a year even if or when the fighting stops. Their facilities have been damaged by the war and are in need of repairs. Hart is now challenged with the task of housing, feeding, clothing, and providing medical and dental assistance for hundreds of displaced children. If anyone is interested in joining this awesome all ages bike-a-thon to help raise funds for refugees in Ukraine we’d love for you to ride for us!! http://rideforrefuge.org/partner/hartcanada More information about the Calgary ride can be found here: http://rideforrefuge.org/location/calgary

Women’s Empowerment Night (WEN) is an annual event, started in 2010, focusing on the educational empowerment of women who are homeless, recent immigrants, or otherwise marginalized and underserved in Calgary. WEN provides women with access to and information about resources, services, education, and free giveaways that foster physical, mental, and social well-being. The event is put on by the University of Calgary’s Student Run Clinic, a group of medical students who volunteer their time, along with an attending physician, to provide medical care to marginalized and homeless people around Calgary through Inn From The Cold, The Alex Bus, and The Refugee Clinic. Various health and social service organizations will be present at the event including The Walk-In Closet, the Distress Centre, Servants Anonymous Society, Shift Calgary, Alberta Works, Women In Work Boots, and the Calgary Sexual Health Centre. They will be providing information on available services as well as tips to maximize health. In addition, MRU massage students, meditation sessions, and a nail painting station will be available for some pampering. A closet of donated women's clothing will be available for guests to choose from and guests will also be provided with dinner and gift bags. Women's Empowerment Night will be held on October 17th, 2014 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm at Knox United Church (506 4 St SW). Admission is free and childcare will be provided at the event. If you would like to volunteer, donate, or get involved in any way please contact Carolyn Graham at chgraham@ucalgary.ca, or visit our website at www.womensempowermentnight.com

Multiple Juno award-winning musician Steve Strongman brings a fresh new sound to the Canadian Blues scene with his acoustic guitar and raw, passionate vocal performance. Originally from Kitchener, Ontario, Strongman is the winner of a Juno, four Maple Blues Awards and the 2009 Mel Brown Blues Award. "With ‘Natural Fact,’ Steve Strongman is well on my way to becoming my new favourite Canadian bluesman and definitely a hidden treasure everyone should discover, like many people including Buddy Guy, Joe Cocker and Randy Bachman already have." - Richard Amery, L.A. Beat “Even if you’re not into blues music at all, I would suggest that you stop in and see this guy live, anyway. You don’t have to be a fan of the music to know that there aren’t going to be many times in your life that you’ll see someone play who has a command of their instrument the way Strongman does.” - Velvet Rope Magazine $41 Friday, November 28, 2014

Solid Rock Baptist Church of Calgary recently held evangelistic meetings in six different parts of the Philippines. The meeting places included Tacloban which was devastated by Typhoon Hayian (Yolanda) in November of last year. The response to these meetings was very enthusiastic with about one hundred and fifty Filipino pastors from independent Baptist churches and many more persons in attendance. Seven preachers from the United States and Canada spoke at the Pastor's School in Tagaytay (near Manila) to conclude the series of gospel meetings that were held in Bicol, Tacloban, Iloilo City, Baladjay (Antique) and Davao (Mindanao) over a five week period. Over seven hundred Filipinos came to this meeting and nearly fifty persons from Solid Rock Baptist Church in Calgary, Canada. Many lives were changed as a result of the strong preaching. Another Pastor's School will be conducted in February 2015 to provide ongoing encouragement and help for the pastors and churches in the Philippines.
