Dear Calgarians, We’re writing to inform you of a mysterious happening at 707 13 Ave SW. One of our staff arrived in the early hours of the day to open the Lougheed House to visitors only to find the most curious situation waiting. A large and preposterously heavy safe had been – rather than stolen – relocated into a place of prominence in the house. To our added befuddlement, the safe had placed upon it a cryptic message indicating that the House itself has something to reveal. Try as we may, we cannot discover what the House is trying to tell us. It seems there is some pattern to it, but we are at a complete loss to any solution. We extend an offer to any Calgarian with the wits to solve this mystery: 1. Visit the museum to decode the message 2. Open the safe on our premises 3. Be entered into a draw to win its contents Help us unlock the value of Lougheed House! Sincerely, The Staff at Lougheed House Regular admission applies Visit our website for open hours www.lougheedhouse.com (403) 244-6333

Eat North proudly presents Alberta Era - a one-of-a-kind dinner inspired by the Mesozoic world! For 100 lucky guests, Alberta Era will be an innovative, entertaining and educational event that will offer an immersive prehistoric experience hosted by paleaontologists combined with roster of acclaimed chefs using their talents to create a multi-course dinner on the rooftop of one of the most popular Canadian tourist attractions - the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta. The event schedule and details: We will provide a coach transportation from a central downtown in Calgary (pick up spot: in front of the Hotel Arts, 119 12 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2R 0G8) to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller leaving at 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival in Drumheller at approximately 3:45 p.m., guests will be moved into small groups and taken on a VIP tour of the museum hosted by Tyrrell's palaeontologists beginning at 4 p.m. Following the museum tour, guests will be guided through a private staff area up to the museum's rooftop for a lively cocktail reception with canapes and interactive fossil exhibition before sitting down for dinner at 6 p.m. The four-course dinner menu inspired by dinosaurs from different periods of the Mesozoic Era completed with wine pairings will be prepared by some of Calgary's top chefs including: JP Pedhirney (Bridgette Bar), Andrea Harling (Made Foods), Paul McGreevy (The Nash) and Quinn Staple and Kat Edwards (Hotel Arts). Once the dinner comes to a close, coach buses will take all guests back to the same downtown Calgary meeting point with an estimated arrival of 10:30 p.m. More information on the dinner can be found on EatNorth.com. The Calgary Civic Symphony and the Alberta Music Teachers Association have partnered for more than 30 years to provide the Calgary Concerto Competition open to aspiring young classical musicians between the ages of 11 and 18. In 2018 they were joined by the Rotary Club of Calgary and the Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition was born. On June 10th, the Civic will bring the winners of the 2018 competition to the Stage of the Jack Singer Concert Hall as we present “RISING STARS”. These are exceptional young musicians and this is not a concert you will want to miss! Past winners include Will Fedkenheuer (professional violinist and member of the Miro Quartet), Arnold Choi (principal cellist for CPO), Estelle Choi (Cellist and member of the Calidore String Quartet), Jan Lisiecki (internationally renowned concert pianist) . The Civic will bring our “Music of the Americas” season to a close featuring the music of two composers, one Canadian and one American. “Fall Fair” by Canadian composer Godfrey Ridout is said to be “a tour-de-force of a piece. So many emotions and imagery being portrayed: boisterous revelry, ho-down country fiddling, nostalgic look back to summer, and maybe even a little love theme in there too”. Finally, you will want to fasten your seatbelts for “Short Ride in a Fast Machine” - 4 ½ minutes of the most adrenaline-packed “pedal to the metal” music in the repertoire by American composer John Adams. Our pre-concert chat will be packed with more incredible music as we present the runners-up from the 2018 Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition. These young musicians will set the stage for the ultimate performance the Civic Symphony featuring the winners from the Rotary C3. The house I bought had a small shed in the backyard—too small and decrepit to use. Dust off your dancing shoes Calgary because Medical Mercy Canada has announced it will host an East coast celebration called East Meets West. Eastern Canadian culture will collide with Western Canadian culture in a way that is both entertaining and informative. Not only will there be a party, there will also be revealing information on what is happening in the Ukraine and how people can help. The event will be held at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Hall on June 23, 2018. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $80 per person for an evening of fun Celtic music, Ukrainian dancing and a steak and lobster dinner with all the trimmings. The event will feature Atlantic Storm, performing authentic Celtic music as well as entertainment that’s classic East Coast fun. East Meets West will also have a dessert auction; Prepared desserts will be awarded to the highest bidder. Canada’s own award-winning journalist and author, Victor Malarek, will be speaking about the sex trade in the Eastern Bloc. This former fifth estate co-host will be sharing his book, Orphanage 41, with copies available for book signing. The proceeds from the event will support Medical Mercy Canada’s Ukraine projects. The funds go toward construction, maintenance and modernization of hospitals, disabled centers, medical clinics and geriatric centers. Medical Mercy Canada has been helping projects in rural Ukraine for over 25 years. Projects also include supporting disabled children centres, tuberculosis treatment for all ages, family support organizations, and diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and other diseases. MMC also regularly ships desperately needed medical supplies (including walkers and geriatric needs) and quality used clothing to all the regions it serves. This summer, Eat North will present its inaugural Drags Benny event - a grand drag brunch organized in support of Calgary Pride. The brunch will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018, in the magnificent Crystal Ballroom in Calgary’s Fairmont Palliser hotel. The event will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with a morning canape hour, sponsored by Eau Claire Distillery, followed by a three-course-plated brunch, created by the Fairmont Palliser executive chef, Eraj Jayawickreme and chef Andrea Harling of Made Foods. Award-winning mixologists, Madeleine MacDonald and Stephen Phipps have created custom cocktails inspired by each drag performer, all of which will be available for purchase during the brunch. Headlining the drag performances for the afternoon will be Chicago's Laila McQueen. The talented performer rose to international fame after appearing on season eight of the Emmy Award winning reality competition series, RuPaul's Drag Race. Local talent set to perform alongside Laila McQueen are drag queens Argentina Hailey and Perla Coddington as well as drag king Duke Carson who recently won the Alberta’s Next Drag Superstar competition earlier this month. The brunch will also feature a silent auction of one-of-a-kind packages, such as exclusive overnight stay in a Fairmont Palliser luxury suite with a dinner for four prepared by chef Eraj Jayawickreme. All the proceeds from this auction will go towards Calgary Pride. General tickets are available for $60 (includes welcome cocktail, canapes, brunch, non-alcoholic beverages and performances). VIP tickets are available for $80 (includes premium seating, limited edition Laila McQueen illustration and a VIP meet-and-greet experience with McQueen and local performers). Join the conversation on social by using the #DragsBenny or #eatnorth hashtags. See you there or, as RuPaul might say, sashay away!
