Next Steps In Truth, Healing and Reconciliation Calgary Unitarians, a liberal faith community, will be hosting a truth and reconciliation exercise during November, and are inviting others to join us in this next step on our path to truth and reconciliation. On three consecutive Tuesday nights we will be streaming the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network’s (APTN) mini-series, First Contact. This production challenges non-Indigenous Canadians to recognize and confront their own prejudices and stereotypes toward Canada’s First Nations. Each showing will be followed by a discussion. The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network describes the production this way: Most Canadians have never taken the time to get to know Indigenous People or visit their communities. First Contact takes six average Canadians, all with strong opinions about Indigenous People, on a unique 28-day journey into Indigenous Canada. Leaving their everyday lives behind the six will travel deep into Winnipeg, Nunavut, Alberta, Northern Ontario, and the coast of BC to visit Indigenous communities. Narrated by host and social justice activist George Stroumboulopoulos, First Contact is a journey that will turn the six participants’ lives upside down. Challenging their perceptions and confronting their opinions about a world they never imagined they would see. It is an experience that will change their lives, forever. (www.aptn.ca/firstcontact/) Come and join us on November 13, 20 and 27th, from 7 pm to approximately 9 pm, for the one-hour video presentation, followed by light refreshments and conversation on this important issue.  The Calgary Unitarians are located at 1703 1st Street NW, Calgary, Alberta. There is a Calgary Transit bus stop just one block away, at Centre Street and 16th Avenue NW. Free off-street parking is available north of the building. Bring a friend and enjoy all three informative and thought provoking evenings. CONTACT: Robert Rickey rickey123@shaw.ca 587-352-1675

The Wardens’ mountain music is a piece of Canada reflecting the pristine wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. With haunting three-part harmonies, Scott Ward (guitar), Bradley Bischoff (guitar) and Ray Schmidt (bass/mandolin) share stories drawing on 60+ years of fiercely protecting Canada’s most prized landscapes. The Wardens are the real deal; their careers have seen them get dangerously close to grizzly bears (Wheels on The Wildlife Trap), fight devastating forest fires (Backfire) and take part in the historic return of the buffalo to Banff National Park in 2017 (Sleeping Buffalo). They preserve heroic tales from park history (Lantern Heart, Troop Train and The Ballad of Bill Neish) and look to nature and landscape as muse (Across The River). A rare look into nature and the soul of the Rocky Mountains, The Wardens’ original songs and stories are an essential part of Canada. HIV Community Link presents Community Voices for World AIDS Day. This annual event brings Calgarians together in support and remembrance. On Friday, November 30th, from 6-9 pm, the Thompsons Restaurant in the Hyatt Regency downtown Calgary will become an amazing musical destination. With the accompaniment of a live band, our partners at Front Row Centre will be providing a show-stopping musical theatre performance of select numbers from the Broadway musical, Rent. Our long-standing supporters at the Calgary Men’s Chorus will also be setting the tone for a fantastic evening with their uplifting choral talents. These entertainers will perform while guests enjoy a cash bar, silent auction and appetizers. December 1st, 2018 is the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day. The annual Community Voices event honours World AIDS Day, the first global health awareness day ever created by the World Health Organization. World AIDS Day is an opportunity to show support for people living with and affected by HIV and to pay tribute to those we have lost to AIDS-related illnesses. Every year, Calgary’s landmarks are illuminated in red to demonstrate solidarity and support for this international campaign. This year is extra special, as HIV Community Link is also celebrating 35 years of excellence in prevention services, support and advocacy in Calgary and Southeastern Alberta. Our mission is for wellness for individuals and communities affected by HIV and hepatitis C. With your support, we can continue to develop and implement innovative ways to achieve our vision of Empowering Choices, Engaging Communities, Ending Transmission.

While still considered by many as an “oil town”, we have seen a wide array of growth in sustainability initiatives. Over the course of this event, we want to explore with you: what is the fate / state of our city in the next 20 years? Friday, November 30, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Keynote Speaker: Julian Agyeman Julian Agyeman is a renowned Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University. The comedian, actor, and best-selling author Sebastian Maniscalco is giving a concert in our city as a part of his Stay Hungry 2018 Tour. Let's face it: in our increasingly tepid, polite, and politically correct culture we need more people like Sebastian Maniscalco. Forever able to seize the moment, never failing to speak his mind, always telling it like it is, this is one man who isn't afraid to put it all out there. Yes, the Chicago-area born, Italian-immigrant-raised comedian behind wildly successful network specials including 2016's Why Would You Do That?, 2014's Aren't You Embarrassed?, and 2012's What's Wrong With People?, is that little voice within all our heads. The one we are too timid to unleash. Maniscalco is bearing the burden of our bizarre and head-scratching modern-day world. Enjoy this wonderful show in an intimate setting. Only 70 seats available for this performance! Tanner James is one of the last great Canadian storytellers who is proud to carry on the oral storytelling tradition. His songs are about the people he meets and places he’s been; they are gut-wrenchingly funny and heartbreakingly confessional. Punk rock taught him how to do-it-yourself, indie rock taught him how to think outside the box, while roots music is where he always knew he would end up. Most of all, James is a songwriter who can move an audience around and make them laugh and cry within minutes.

It can be hard to be imperfect in a world that demands perfection. If you are born with or develop a disability, you can be put into uncomfortable situations in our society. To go out into the streets, like every other human being, in a wheelchair might lead to some strange looks from other people or they might even point fingers at you. It might make you feel uncomfortable to be “different” in a group of people who are all the same. It might feel a little bit too risky to fight against the wind. But what can we do? How can you break all those things and fight them? THROUGH THE POWER OF BEING AN EXAMPLE! That’s the answer! Change your mentality and choose to be perfect in a imperfect world! Nothing can stop someone who has that strength! If you have been given a life, live it to the maximum and don’t waste opportunities! Show the world that no matter what you have been through, no matter what has happened to you, YOU CAN and YOU WILL be all that you want to be! For one day public figures, from different industries, will have to switch lives with a person in a wheelchair: Taylor Hatala (dancer), Anam Kazim (MLA for Calgary-Glenmore), Kevin Davey (actor), Eddie Leung (entertainment industry - Concorde Group), Neveen Dominic (CEO Neveen Dominic Cosmetics), Victor Tse (Mister Alberta 2018), Mike Sherrard (top real estate agent), Althea Carol (executive producer), Stan Peake (business coach, speaker & author) and Kate Lynn (singer). Videos of each public figure changing lives for one day will be playing the night of the event before they will come on stage. Each public figure will present a person in a wheelchair a medal and a bouquet of flowers. These public figures will also sign a beautiful piece of art, made by a European painter, that will go on auction the night of the event. Featuring special guest Bean Gill (Miss Wheelchair Canada 2018) A portion of the proceeds will go to Spinal Cord Injury Alberta which aims to empower persons with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities to achieve indepe

Dec 14-15 @ 7pm, Dec 16 @ 9am & 11am Dec 14 *Opening Night Only* Complimentary Cider @ 6:20pm   Christmas Letters | a Foothills Alliance Original Script by Adam Schnell When Muriel, an offbeat angelic stenographer finally gets her first probationary field assignment, she couldn’t be more thrilled. But completing her mission proves more challenging then she thought! Intercepted on the way to his father’s funeral, Todd, her earthly charge, refuses to read the letter she has for him. With time running out, Muriel’s unconventional training and eager innocence propel them through a series of unorthodox revelations that culminate in a big surprise for each of them.   This musical production is quirky and fun with a message that will touch the heart.

Original music & stories from the Canadian Rockies The Wardens don’t just sing about the land, they’re part of it.

With three-part harmonies and chilling tales, The Wardens' mountain music rises from land they’ve protected. As rangers in the Rocky Mountain national parks, they’ve wrangled grizzly bears, rescued stranded hikers and survived lonely nights on the pack trail. It's “the quintessential mountain-culture concert experience.” Blending folk, roots, and western styles, the material is a piece of Canadiana reflecting the pristine wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. The trio have performed at Folk Alliance International, Canmore Folk Fest, and Alberta Showcase. They have shared the stage with Blue Rodeo, Paul Brandt, Scenic Route to Alaska, and Ian Tyson.  BRADLEY BISCHOFF Vocals, lead and rhythm guitar Bradley began his national park warden lifestyle in 1981 stationed in the rugged South Boundary region of Jasper National Park,

Assigned alone to the backcountry with a handful of horses for seventeen days at a time, Bradley penned many songs by the dim cabin lights and spent dusky summers in the high alpine ranges.

Bradley was a founding member of the Alberta Swing/Rockabilly band The Free Rangers. With The Wardens, he combines his melodic vocals and smooth lead licks with his mountain roots.   RAY SCHMIDT Vocals, upright bass, mandolin Currently posted in Rogers Pass, Ray works with grizzly bears in the interior rainforest of Glacier National Park. Ray founded The Wardens in 2009 with Scott Ward during the national park warden centennial after discovering the rich depth of music and stories within this region of Canada.

Translating the high lonesome sound of the Kentucky hills to those of the Rocky Mountains, Ray's vocals amplify the spirit of The Wardens' Mountain music. SCOTT WARD Vocals, fingerstyle guitar A national park warden for over 30 years in Banff National Park, Scott's music stems from a life lived in the deep wilderness of the Canadian Rockies as a horseman, search

We know Airdrie loves guitar shows and this amazing show features six virtuoso guitarists from four countries (Japan, Canada, Belgium, and US). The California Guitar Trio (CGT) and the Montreal Guitar Trio (MG3) fuse over 40 years of combined performing experience into one unique six-by-six-string ‘phenomensemble’. In a pleasantly surprising way, CGT's steel stringed-guitars blend naturally with MG3's nylon-stringed guitars, as each trios fret boards chase the others' original compositions and new arrangements of progressive rock, world, jazz and classical music.
